YOUTH RED CROSS:
The International Red Cross Movement is a well-known and worldwide humanitarian Organization, present in almost all the countries. The movement was found by Jean Henry, who is known as the father of RED CROSS movement.
Since the inception of the Institution in 1993, YRC has been functioning at Bhaktavatsalam Memorial College for Women.
The understanding and acceptance of civic responsibilities and acting in accordance with humanitarian concern, to fulfill the same.
To enable the growth and the development of a spirit of service and sense of duty with dedication and devotion in the minds of Youth.
To foster better friendly relationship with all without any discrimination.
ACTIVITIES REPORT 2011-2012:
The Orientation Programme of YRC of our College was held on 28th September, 2011. The Chief Guest for the function was Mrs. Uma Maheshwari, YRC Officer, and Head, Department of Tamil, S.S.S Jain College, T.Nagar, Chennai

YRC of our college has been effectively functioning under the guidance of
Mrs. Hemalatha, YRC volunteers have attended various Programmes and workshops conducted by Youth Red Cross society, TamilNadu branch.
Mrs. G. Hemalatha and Mrs. C.Kavitha co coordinators and four volunteers V.Nandhini,M.Rekha,G.Keerthiga and G.Rekha attended the three day workshop held for YRC volunteers from 8th February to 10th February at Indian Red Cross Society, Egmore, Chennai.
Mrs. C. Kavitha co-ordinator of YRCS attended the meeting of celebration of 62nd Geneva Convention Day held on 18th July 2011 at Indian Red Cross Society, Egmore.
Hemalatha, co-ordinator attended the 62nd Geneva Convention Day held on 5th August 2011 at Queen Mary’s college, Chennai.
Blood donation camp:
YRC along with NSS conducted blood donation camp on 13 March in our colleges premises.60 students donated blood .
The YRC of BMC is functioning successfully with the program officers Ms. G.Hemalatha, Head, Department of ISM and Ms Brindavi, Asst. Prof. Department of HCM. We have Successfully conducted Eye camp for more than 2000 students with the help of Dr. Aravind vision care.
Dental and cancer awareness:
YRC Organized a Dental awareness program for the volunteers by Dr. Emmanual Dhiravia Sargunam. He is a Reader &Surgeon in Department of Oral and Maxillofacial at Sri Ramachandra Dental College. He delivered a valuable speech on dental care and also created awareness on oral cancer.
Our volunteers participated in a rally for voting awareness among our public with the help of our local police. Our team of 20 students attended a one day camp for first aid awareness and Disaster relief program conducted by the INDIAN RED CROSS SOCITY, Egmore.
Cancer Awareness Programming by Pennalam:
PENN NALAM organization are working with the intention ‘women for women’.Their motto is ‘to save lives of women from cancer on time’. A cancer awareness programme was conducted by Mrs.Geetha Mohan, Awareness Educator, PENN NALAM, on 29-07-2013 in our
college premises. Our staff members and students one thousand. Mrs.Arockia Mary, Awareness co-ordinator,
Don Bosco Anbu Illam:
The volunteers of YRC and some of our college students under YRC celebrated ‘Krishna jayanthi’ at ‘Don Bosco Anbu illam’[No:6, Sarvapalli street, Malleswari Nagar , Erukkanchary,Chennai-600118.] Anbu illam provides shelter to more than 80 children who are under the age of 15. Our YRC volunteers gave sweets and snacks to those children justifying the celebration of Krishna’s birth. They spent their day with that children by playing, teaching, chatting which paved a way for the children to express their happiness.
On behalf of YRC, BMC an amount of Rs.2500/- was contributed to Udhavum karangal, Maduravoyal-an old age home which provides shelter for old age women, downtrodden women, mentally retarded and spastic women. The amount served as a breakfast on 28-03-2014 for 162 members. Our volunteers spent nearly 2 hours with those people- chatting with them, sharing their memories –gave a room for those people to express their love. They blessed out volunteers for a prosperous life. Photos and videos were taken.
Blood donation camp:
YRC and NSS of BMC joined hands together with HDFC bank to conduct a Blood donation camp in our college campus. Among 300 volunteers 85 of our students were found to be fit and donated their blood. On behalf of our staff members, MS.S Sharmila, Asst prof of Corporate Dept. donated her blood.
Visioning –a seminar:
Prof . Aravindan of Vedanta Institute conducted a seminar on ‘visioning life’ The purpose of the seminar was to inculcate the students to choose a walk of Life among the choices available for them in 360 degree. Avoid ‘Herd Instinct’ was also insisted to our students in a noble way. Students of YRC, NSS & NCC attended the seminar
Stem cell donation:
In Stem Cell Donation Awareness Programme, most of the students were willing to donate stem cells to save people from blood related disease particularly cancer presented by Ms.Dartri. 30 students of YRC participated in the First Aid & Disaster management workshop, which gained knowledge about First Aid Programme also visioning life seminar was to inculcate the students to choose a walk of life.
Organized “CANCER CONTROL PROGRAMME” with the help of JEEVAN
THANGUM KARANGAL at our college premises.
The YRC of BMC is functioning successfully with the program officers Ms. G.Hemalatha, Head, Department of ISM and Ms.Sharon Divya Preethi, Ms. Ambika. We have successfully conducted Eye camp for more than 4000 students with the help of Dr. Aravind vision care.
Workshop on disaster management:
A team of YRC volunteers attended a WORKSHOP on “DISASTER MANAGEMENT” held at Indian Red Cross Society.
