
ABOUT THE COURSE:
The department of Computer Science was established in 1993 – 1994 for shift-I. Considering the fact that India is thrusting itself as the leader into the information technology era, the department aims to impart high quality education and prepare the young women to face the challenges of the ever-demanding IT field. The curriculum of the courses has been designed by the University of Madras to give strong foundation in all technical aspects of computers and its applications and also to develop the communication and soft skills for the students.
The courseware includes a strong foundational base in computer fundamentals, competence in computer languages and application in projects. Due to increasing demand, the course is also being offered in Shifts II in different timings. The course in Shift II came into existence during the academic year 1994 – 1995.
DURATION
The duration of the course is three years which includes six semesters with two semesters per year. Each semester has ninety working days followed by examinations at the end of each semester. The odd semesters shall consist of the period from June to November of each year and the even semester from December to April of each year.
ELIGIBILITY:A pass in +2 with Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science (or) Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics.
ACADEMIC PROGRESSION:
B.Sc Computer Science course imparts up-to-date knowledge in software and hardware skills and produces well qualified computer professionals who can bring about qualitative difference in this field. Students acquire in-depth technical knowledge and practical application skills in all disciplines of Computer Science
Department of Computer Science produces 100% results every year in the final semester and has produced many university rank holders. Many of our students have been placed through campus recruitment in reputed software companies like Wipro, HCL, and HP etc..
CAREER PROGRESSION:
Students are ready to meet the industrial demands and to face the needs of industries dealing with object oriented software engineering, multimedia design automation, networking, medical field, automobile sectors.

The U.G. Department of Computer Science was established during the academic year 1993 - 1994. Due to increasing demand, the department offered the course in two shifts: Shift I and Shift II in different timings. The course in Shift I and Shift II came into existence during the academic year 1993 – 1994 and 1994 - 1995 respectively.
The department has a well equipped and upgraded laboratory as per the curriculum. It is also provided with sufficient textbooks, reference books and journals to meet the students’ requirement in the library. The department has qualified and dedicated team of faculty members who strive for the students’ excellence. In addition to academics, the students are also encouraged to take part in co-curricular activities and extra-curricular activities. The department aims to impart high quality education and prepare the young women to meet the challenges in the ever-demanding IT field.
ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES:
The Department of Computer Science has conducted several programmes like seminars and career counseling for the final year students on latest trends in Information Technology by eminent personalities from various reputed organizations like NASSCOM , CSC etc. The department also encourages the students to participate in various activities and competitions conducted by other institutions.

1) EVENT NAME : CONNEXIONS ‘2K18
DEPARTMENT NAME : UG Computer Science, Information Systems & Management and PG Information Technology
An Intra-Department activity for students, jointly organized by the departments of UG Computer Science, Information Systems & Management and PG Information Technology was conducted on 17 th of December 2018 in the college auditorium.
Principal Dr.C.N.Eswari inaugurated the function and Secretary Dr.S.P.Rajagopalan gave away the prizes to the winners and student organizers for the valedictory. Various events like quiz, crosswords, brain bust, finding out the personality etc were some of the highlights in the activity.

A guest lecture was conducted on January 5th 2019 in the college auditorium for the final year students of UG Computer Science, Information Systems Management, Computer Applications, I year PG Computer Science & I year PG Information Technology. The topic of the session was on Industrial Expectations and Career Guidance. This guest lecture was an extension activity of the intra departmental activity – ‘Connexions2k19’. The lecture was very interesting and useful for the students.
3) INTERCOLLEGIATE TECHNICAL COMPETITION - 2 FEB 2019
ORGANISED BY THE DEPARTMENTS OF COMPUTER SCIENCE, COMPUTER APPLICATIONS, INFORMATION SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
An Inter-collegiate Technical Symposium was jointly organized by the departments of Computer Science(UG & PG), Computer Applications, Information Systems and Management and Information Technology(PG) on 2nd February 2019.
The State Level Technical Symposium Tecknowfest2k19 was inaugurated by Dr.V.Rhymand Uthariaraj, Professor & Director, Ramanujan Computing Centre & Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions, Anna University, Chennai. The inaugural session began with the welcome address delivered by our Principal Dr.C.N.Eswari, who introduced the chief guest and highlighted the importance of such symposium in this technological world.
The Chief Guest, Dr. V.Rhymand Uthariaraj, delivered the key note address emphasizing on “Learning new technology” and to be good service providers. He also stressed upon the importance on time management.
The Symposium was conducted successfully by conducting various events both onstage and off stage. The onstage events were Just a Minute, Quiz, Puzzle and Adzap and the off stage events were Web desigining,Debugging. 14 colleges participated in various events. Students participated enthusiastically in all the events.
The overall championship was bagged by “St.Thomas College”, Koyambedu.
Thus the highly vibrant one day State Level Technical Symposium was indeed a highly informative and beneficial symposium where young minds met and explored the various areas in technology.
4) NATIONAL CONFERENCE ORGANIZED BY MATHEMATICS,PHYSICS,COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ELECTRONICS:
National Conference was organized on 8th & 9th February 2018 accompany by department of mathematics,electronics, physics and computer science on “RECENT ADVANCES IN MATHEMATICS ,PHYSICS,COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ELECTRONICS” .
The inaugural session began with the welcome address by Dr. C.N.Eswari, Principal of our College. Dr.S.P.Rajagopalan, Secretary of our college gave a special address. Mrs.K.Tamilselvi, Convenor of the conference gave an introduction. Then the conference proceedings was released by the dignitaries.
Inaugural function of the conference
The inaugural speech was given by Dr. K.S. Easwarakumar, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Anna University, Chennai. He expressed his pleasure that such conferences conducted would give good impression for the college and could help to harvest opportunities of employment to create awareness regarding the future scope in the particular fields of study. Dr.V.Thangaraj, Former Professor, Director & Head, Ramanujan Institute for Advanced study in Mathematics, University of Madras was the special guest for the inaugural function. He stressed the growing needs of awareness regarding the advancements and applications in science & technology both at the academic & industrial level.
Concurrent session I for computer science & Mathematics took place in two different places drawing respective students & scholars. For computer science, Dr. K.S.Easwarakumar was the chairperson. He gave a lecture on Cryptography. 15 students and research scholars presented papers on various topics such as Application of Graph theory & Big data. 3 scholars presented papers.
A lecture on “JOY OF MATHEMATICS” given by Prof.Dr.THANGARAJ, Ramanujam Institute and “TEXT MINING ON ROBUST TECHNIQUES” given by “Prof.Dr.K.SRINIVASAN,University Of Madras.
Concurrent session II for Computer Science was headed by Dr.N.Nagasubramanian, Business Head, Open Wave Computing Services Pvt. Ltd. He gave a talk on “Blockchain”. 16 students and research scholars presented papers on topics such as Cryptography and Internet of things. Dr.M.R.Srinivasan , Professor & Head, Department of statistics, University of Madras headed the Mathematics session. He gave a lecture on “Text mining using Robust method”. 3 scholars presented papers.
Day 2 started with the session for Physics. Dr.G.Anbazhagan, Professor, Dept of nuclear physics, University of Madras, was the chairperson. He gave a lecture on “Recent trends in Thermoelectric material”. 5 students and scholars presented papers. The next session was on Electronics. It was headed by Dr.SU.Suganthy, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Sri Sai Ram Institute of Technology. She gave a talk on “Wireless sensor networks”. 14 students and research scholars presented papers on various topics.
In addition to the paper presentations there were 40 participants for mathematics, 28 & 2 participants for computer science and physics respectively.There was question time for the benefit of the students in all the sessions to raise their views & doubts on the papers presented during the session.
Valedictory function of the conference
The conference has generated huge interest in the academic & industrial sectors related to recent advancements in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics & Electronics. It concluded with great inspiration among the students to further deepen their studies in their respective fields. It created an awareness among the students and research scholars to participate more and more in such type of conference in future. The conduct of NCACMPE-2018 was successfully highlighting the potential of both the students and the research scholars.
