DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS & COMMUNICATION SCIENCE

ABOUT THE COURSE
The U.G. program in Electronics & Communication Science came into existence during the academic year 1994-1995. Electronic science includes physical electronics, optoelectronics and microelectronics. It is a comprehensive discipline with an optimum mix of Electronics, Communication and Computer Science. This is one of the courses which gives the students a strong foundation to pursue their careers in the industry. Teaching methods include seminars, group work and theory sessions.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Candidate for admission to the first year of B.SC Electronics & Communication Science course is required to pass the higher secondary examination conducted by state /central board of school education  with  physics and mathematics.

DURATION OF THE COURSE
The duration of the course is three years which includes six semesters with two semesters per year. Each semester has ninety working days followed by examinations at the end of each semester. The odd semesters shall consist of the period from June to November of each year and the even semester from December to April of each year.

ACADEMIC PROGRESSION:
The Electronics and Communication Science follows the syllabus framed by the University of Madras. It gives an insight into electricity and magnetism with basic electronics and numerical mathematics. The course includes the fundamental concepts of electronic devices, digital electronics, microprocessor and its application. In addition, it also covers Bio-Medical Instrumentation, as an Elective subject which is currently a fast growing area of research. The students undergo in-plant training during the summer vacation to gain hands-on industrial exposure which bridges the gap between education and  industry. The final year students are also required to submit their project work.

CAREER PROGRESSION
After the successful completion of the course, students have wide opportunities to get placements in IT departments, labs, Research centers and Teaching profession. The students have ample opportunities in the design, development and research in manufacturing enterprises and research institutes. The students can pursue their higher studies by taking up M.Sc., (electronics /   IT), M.B.A, M.C.A, B.Ed., etc.

DATE OF COMMENCEMENT OF THE COURSE:
