The U.G. program in Electronics & Communication Science came into existence during the academic year 1994-1995. Electronic science includes physical electronics, optoelectronics and microelectronics. It is a comprehensive discipline with Analysis and design of Electronics, Communication, Computer systems as well as Microprocessor, Microcontroller and Embedded systems. This is one of the courses which gives the students a strong foundation to pursue their careers in the industry. Teaching methods include seminars, group work and theory sessions.
Candidate for admission to the first year of B.SC Electronics & Communication Science course is required to pass the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by state /central board of school education with Maths / Physics / Computer Science.
The duration of the course is three years which includes six semesters with two semesters per year. Each semester has ninety working days followed by examinations at the end of each semester. The odd semesters shall consist of the period from June to November of each year and the even semester from December to April of each year.
The Electronics and Communication Science follows the syllabus framed by the University of Madras. It gives an insight into Basic electronics and numerical mathematics in I year. The course includes the fundamental concepts of Electronic devices, Digital electronics, Microprocessor and its application in II year. In addition, it also covers Biomedical Instrumentation in III year, as an Elective subject which is currently a fast growing area of research. The students undergo in-plant training during the summer vacation to gain hands-on industrial exposure which bridges the gap between education and industry. The final year students are also required to submit their project work.
After the successful completion of the course, students have wide opportunities to get placements in IT departments, labs, Research Centres and Teaching profession. The students have ample opportunities in the design, development and research in manufacturing enterprises and research institutes. The students can pursue their higher studies by taking up M.Sc., (electronics / IT), M.B.A, M.C.A, B.Ed., etc.
