The Department of Commerce was started in the year 1993. With the increase in demand for Commerce stream, In order to enrich the students in research, the Department spread its wing by starting M.Phil programme in 2013–14. The untiring efforts of the department enabled itself to upgrade with full -time and part- time Ph.D programme. The Department is functioning with nearly 1000 students. The main focus of the M Phil course is to develop employability skill and promote research and research related activities. With the sole aim of serving for the betterment of women through education. The department imparts value-based education with the objective of moulding women into smart, educated persons capable of taking on global challenges to fulfil their aspirations. M.Com holders with a minimum aggregate of 55% marks can seek admission to M.Phil (Commerce) in Madras University. Admission of eligible candidates is done on the basis of qualifying examination marks, written test and interview. The main objective is to enable students to understand the basic framework of Research Methodology to apply Financial management theories and Marketing practices and solve the Real time issues. To achieve the above vision, we continuously work to bring together thinkers, doers and creators who deliver high-quality industry based research that transforms lives. The course focuses on Research Methodology, Contemporary Marketing and Finance, Accounting.
Our College has a team of highly qualified, experienced and skilled faculty members with the dedication to convert young students in to knowledgeable professionals having the required skills to avail appropriate and prosperous jobs in the corporate, research and teaching spheres. The faculty members not only respect the conventional methodologies of educating students in the field, but also stretch their limits to innovate effective methodologies that would impart hands on experiences in the practical aspects of their education.
A guest lecture on the topic “Guidance of effective thesis writing” was conducted by the research students in the year 2014&2017 by the eminent speaker Dr.K.R.Sowmya, professor& Head , dept of management studies, Rajalaskhmi ENGINEERING COLLEGE
In 2016 International conference was organized by the PG& Research department of commerce which was held on 3rd and 4th March on the theme “I connect”- “International conference on native economy commerce of trade”. This conference was a grand success and paved way for many more ahead.
