ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION pass in B.Sc Mathematics or B.Sc Applied science from the University of Madras or equivalent.
The duration of the course is two years which includes four semesters. Each semester has ninety working days followed by examinations at the end of each semester.
The course in the M.Sc Mathematics includes topics in Theoretical Mathematics and its Applications to equip students to pursue Research in Mathematics or to take up careers in teaching mathematics or to go into related fields in the industry. The students are given the option to choose major elective subjects in the I and III semester and non-major elective in the II and IV semester. The students also take up skill based subjects in the I,II,III and IV semester.
The department of mathematics was approved by the university in 2011. The department is training and encouraging the students to develop their skills for competitive examination and mathematical oriented activities. The department is conducting quiz programs , puzzles and mental activities. The department has motivated itself to excel in education and research in harmony with future propects.

The Departments of Computer Science, Computer Applications and Information Technology are equipped with excellent, sophisticated computer laboratories with state-of-the art computing facilities and latest systems configuration. The UG and PG courses maintain separate labs with the student-machine ratio as 1:1. The labs accommodate around 150 systems which are fully networked and up-to-date software requirements, with respect to the curriculum, have been installed to cater to the needs of the students of the UG/ PG streams. Internet with Wi-Fi facility is also available in the laboratories. The students are given practical training in a variety of software to meet the challenges in the IT industry. In addition to the academic practicals, internet browsing, student marks/nominal roll entry as per the University’s regulations and soft skill training for the students of the college are also administered through the computer labs.
UG Department of Mathematics organized a Quiz program through online mode for the higher secondary students during the month of august. The objective of the program is to enrich the basic knowledge in Mathematics, more then 150 students participated and received the certificates successfully.

More than 15 college are participated the quiz actively. The objective of the program is to enrich their knowledge in Mathematics, more than 500 students participated and received the certificates successfully.
DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS organized a seminar on “Glimpse of Srinivasa Ramanujam and visual Mathematics” on 28th Jan 2014. The highlights of the seminar includes Ramanujam’s wonderful pattern of numbers and visualising mathematics in powerpoint presentation by Prof.R.Sivaraman, founder of Pie Mathematics Association, D.G.Vaishnav college.
The PG DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS organised an Intercollegiate Maths Fiesta Olympiad 2015 on 29th January. Inaugural address was delivered by Dr.Premalatha Kumaresan Director & Head Ramanujam Institute for Advance Study in Mathematics University of Madras. About 10 Colleges and 150 students participated in the five events:Oratorical, Quiz, Mathematical Collage, Adzap and Medley. The overall trophy was bagged by M.O.P.Vaishnav College for Women and the individual performance trophy was won by S.D.N.B College for Women.
The department of Mathematics organized Numera - 2016 , an interdepartmental activities on 26th Feb’2016.The five departments Computer Science , Electronics & Communication Science , BCA , Chemistry and Physics with CA , students participated in the four events Quiz , Adzap , Dumbcharades and Collage. The overall championship was bagged by Computer Science Shift-I. In the afternoon session,Guest Lecture on “Ramanujam Magic Square” by our honourable secretary Dr.S.P.Rajagopalan.
The department of mathematics organized a Guest lecture “Matrix decomposition and its applications” on 17.02.2017. Dr.M.R.Srinivasan, Professor and Head, Dept of Statistics, University of Madras explained about the matrix decomposition and their types and its applications.
The department of mathematics celebrated the 130th birthday Anniversary of the great mathematician “SRINIVASAN RAMANUJAM” on 22nd December 2017.on that day honorable secretary sir Dr.S.P.Rajagopalan delivered a special speech on “MAGIC SQUARES” and also added Ramanujam’s biography and his lost workbook
UG Department of Mathematics has celebrated our great mathematician “Sri Ramanujan” 131st birthday on 22 Dec 2018. In this connection ,we conducted Event 1 : “Maths Expo 2018” – Our students exhibit the mathematics models & projects. Event 2 : Our Honorable secretary – Dr.S.P.Rajagopalan delivered a lecture on “Ramanujan Numbers “ & he awarded the best three models in the exhibition. Bhaktavatsalam Vidyashram school students & our other department students attended the programmes.

Ramanujan Day Celebration was organized by the department of PG Mathematics on 22 nd December 2021. This event was conducted to celebrate the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan. Principal i/c, Dr. K. R. Dhanalakshmi, Mrs. K. Tamil Selvi, HOD of PG Maths, Dr. R. Indira, IQAC Director, Dr. R. Padmajavalli, R & D Dean, Dr. Maria Peter, Student Mentor Dean paid floral homage to the photo of Srinivasa Ramanujan. A webinar was organized by the department on the topic “Careers in Mathematics and Opportunities for students” on 22 nd December at 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. During the webinar, the worldwide opportunities for mathematics and various National and International fellowships have been introduced to the students. Students were benefited through the information regarding various internships and mathematical schools for pursuing research.
PG Department of Mathematics organized a Webinar on July 7th 2020. During the webinar, Chief Guest Dr. V. Sathyavathydelivered a lecture on Exposure to CSIR – NET for the Subject Complex Analysis.
On these topics, explained the keynote to solve the problems & choose the correct answer. Students had an interactive session regarding selecting the subjects to prepare for the examination & clarified their doubts.
