M.Sc. Physics

M.Sc. Physics

ABOUT THE COURSE

The PG department of Physics was started during the academic year 2015- 2016. The PG lab is provided with well equipped instruments to compete with students’ cardinal numbers. The department has enough reference books and thesis for the students to enrich their knowledge in the field of Physics.

Objectives

Our outcomes include a mastery of

  • domain knowledge in the fields of physics
  • research methods and laboratory skills
  • communication skills including technical and informal communication.

ELIGIBILITY

A pass in the B. Sc degree examination in branch-III Physics main with Mathematics as one of the ancillary subjects or B. Sc Applied Science of the University of Madras with Mathematics as one of the ancillary subjects or examination of some other University accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent degree.

DURATION OF THE COURSE

The duration of the courses is for two years consisting of four semesters.

CAREER PROGRESSION

Physics is an important field of science, with much research taking place all around the world. Physics is a valuable asset to everyone. Many companies are actively seeking young people with physics backgrounds. All physicists, whether you have a bachelors degree, a Masters degree or a PhD, are valuable and needed. Having a Master of Science (M. Sc) in Physics tells a prospective employer that you are able to learn the special skills required in a particular job, and that you can analyze and solve problems by yourself. People with this degree have taken jobs as research assistants or technicians with companies like Xerox, Nortel, and many others. A physics degree can also be used as a stepping stone to further training and careers in teaching, meteorology, engineering, law, medicine, and the health sciences.

About the Department

The PG Department of Physics was started in the year 2015-2016. Master of Science in Physics transforms the students’ reasoning by imbibing the science concepts. Tuning of experimental knowledge to synchronize theoretical knowledge occurs by a comprehensive approach. They are trained to acquire cognizance to design and bring out the specific outputs in experiments, probe and correlate the conceptual facts, intend to extend their expertise in research, and profession, and be a promising candidate for what they are aimed for.
