ABOUT THE COURSE

The Department of Accounting & Finance follows the syllabus framed by University of Madras under CBCS. The course provides a sound knowledge in key areas of Finance, Corporate, Cost, Management Accounts and Income Tax Law & Practice with substantial understanding of concepts in the course curriculum. The students are trained to develop professional and Entrepreneurial skills.

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates for admission for the First year of the Degree B.Com Accounting & Finance shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examinations conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu or an examination accepted as equivalent thereof by the syndicate of the University of Madras.

About the Department

The Department of Accounting and Finance, as a branch of Commerce was started in year 2013 with sanctioned strength of 50 students. It functions with the main objective of producing University Rank holders through quality education. The aim of the department is to build Entrepreneurial Skills, Social Responsibility and Ethics among the students who are mostly first generation learners.

Department Activities

Event for the year 2022

The Department of Accounting and Finance conducted a webinar on “GST AND ITS METRICS” On January 20th, 2022. The webinar was open to all the students and approximately 85 students were participated in the webinar. The Resource person Dr. T. S. Ravi MBA,MCS,M.Phil, Ph.D,Adjunct faculty, Department of Business Administration, RKM Vivekananda College (Autonomous), Mylapore was the key speaker for the event. He spoke about GST basics and the valuation of supply under GST.

The webinar was started with prayer song by Student Ms. N.Sangeetha II B.Com A&F .

The welcome speech was given by respected Dr. K.R Dhana Lakshmi, Principal Incharge, Head, PG and Research Department of Commerce, Bhaktavatsalam Memorial College for women.

The Guest Speaker Introduction was given by our Convenor respected Mrs. M. Latha.

Dr. T. S. RaviAdjunct faculty, Department of Business Administration, RKM Vivekananda College (Autonomous), Mylapore was the key speaker for the event.

During the session, he explained the concepts regarding the advent of GST and why is it important. The discussion also provided when are taxes levied in GST, the value and supply and the place of supply. Here he mentioned about how goods and services are valuated,the concept of CGST, SGST and IGST. The students were educated with registration and filling of GST return, the concept of HSN and GSTN, the meaning of composite and mixed goods and its valuation under GST.

He ended the session with his words“GST is a behavioural change and its success in implementation depends on us as citizens”. The session was filled with informationand also understandable for the students about GST and its Metrics.

In the end of the session, therespected speaker Dr. T.S. Ravi was honoured by our respected Convenor Mrs. M. Latha with certificate of Appreciation. Vote of Thanks was given by Ms. M. ThamaraiSelvi, Assistant Professor of Department of Accounting and Finance.Overall the participants were benefited in this programme and received E-Certificate.

EVENT 1

INTER COLLEGIATE EVENT

“COMBUZZ - 2020” was organized by the Department of Accounting and Finance along with department of CS and ISM on 20th February, 2020. Mr. A.N.Raman, Former president of South Asian Federation of Accountants were the Chief Guest of the Program. He has delivered lecture on “Artificial Intelligence.” Around 300 students have participated representing the city colleges. 3 On – Stage events and 3 off – stage events were organized and the overall trophy winner was D.R.R.C.C.C Hindu College, Pattabiram.

EVENT 2

Department of Accounting and Finance were organised Webinar on “Adapting to virtual classroom learning” on 18th May, 2020. The Resource person of the program was Mr.J.LIONEL MARTIN.M.B.A in Training and development, Certified NLP practitioner, SHAHS SKILL DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY. He spoke on strategies to boost students participation during online learning and also how to be participative in digital platforms. The session was interactive and 100 students were the beneficiaries and E- Certificate was given to all the participants.

EVENT 3

National level webinar on “NEURO MARKETING” organized by Department of Accounting and Finance on 30th June 2020. The resource person was Dr.V.SUMATHY, Assistant Professor , Department of Commerce, Quaid-E-Millath Government College for Women.

She delivered Neuro Marketing is measurement of physiological and neural signals of consumers towards advertisement and about products. At the end of the webinar E-certificate was provided.

Financial Awareness and Consumer Training Programme, Conducted by NCFE.

The Department of Corporate Secretaryship and Accounting and Finance organized one day programme on financial awareness and consumer training for the final year students on 11th February 2019. The resource person Mr.M. Jeyaprakash, Director MCUBE Academy of skill development private ltd., educated the students on how to invest and save for the life.

Faculty Development Program on “Capital Market Operations and Online Trading”

One day Faculty Development Program on “Capital Market Operations and Online Trading “was organised on 15.02.2019. Mrs. Jyothi Sathish, addressed the gathering about “New trends in financial aspects”. The resource person. Mr. M. Jeyaprakash, Director, MCUBE Academy and NSE of Skill Development Pvt. Ltd delivered the lecture on ‘Emerging trends in stock markets’ and a practical training in Online Trading was given to the students in the Technical session.

One Day Awareness Program on “INVESTOR AWARENESS PROGRAM AND CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN FINANCIAL MARKET”

The Department organized one day awareness program on “Investor awareness program and career opportunities in financial market “dated 19.01.2018.Mr. M. Jeyaprakash, MCUBE Academy and NSE of Skill Development Pvt. Ltd was the resource person and addressed the students and the PPT was made on development of Life skill , Employment skill and Entrepreneur skill for employment opportunities in financial market.
